Recover sends a 4-email sequence triggered by the Stripe decline type. Hard declines get an immediate card update email. Soft declines enter the 7-day sequence.

40%+
Average open rate across the sequence. Stripe native dunning emails average 13%. The difference comes from sending from a recognizable sender with your product name in the subject line, and a sequence that escalates appropriately instead of sending one generic message.
The 5 templates
Hard decline — Immediate (expired card, lost/stolen, account closed)
Hi [Name], your recent payment for [Product] was declined because your card on file needs to be updated. This is a one-time fix — click below to update your payment method and keep your subscription active. It takes about 30 seconds.
Soft decline — Day 1 (insufficient funds, processing error, authentication required)
Hi [Name], we weren't able to process your [Product] subscription payment. This sometimes happens due to a temporary card issue. We'll retry automatically, but you can also update your payment method now to avoid any interruption.
Day 3
Hi [Name], your [Product] payment is still outstanding. We've been unable to collect payment after two attempts. To keep your account active, please update your payment method — it only takes a moment.
Day 5
Hi [Name], we've been trying to collect your [Product] payment for 5 days without success. Your account will be paused in 2 days if we're unable to process payment. Please update your payment method to continue your subscription.
Day 7 — Final notice
Hi [Name], this is a final notice before we pause your [Product] account. If you'd like to continue using [Product], please update your payment method now. Your account and all data will remain intact — we just need a valid payment method on file.
Custom domain sending is coming in Phase 2. Emails will send from your domain (billing@yourproduct.com) with your brand colors and logo. During early access, emails send from recover@fourthngoal.ai with your product name in the subject line, which is what drives the 40%+ open rate vs. Stripe's 13%.
